My First Date

Sweetest Photos Ever

Another "Dear Young Lady" post

I was a late bloomer slash my parents were very strict.

My very first date with a guy, I was seventeen and unbelievable excited.  I bought this new outfit and convinced him to bring his best friend along so I could bring my bestie too.  Want to know how it went?

a.) The movie was awful I can't even remember what it is (that or I am
having one of my not-so-senior moments)
b.)We got lost on our way to a party.
c.)There was a storm and my new outfit was wet (plus one of my shoe's
               sole literally fell off)
d.)The party was over by the time we got there.
           e.)All of the above.

Yeah, E-all of the above. I kid you not.  But the weirdest thing was, I had the most amazing time, and you could say the Seventeen-Year-Old Me was totally thrilled and a little bit in love.  I loved how he was a total gentleman.  I loved how we were both laughing over how bad the movie was.  I loved how he and his friend cracked jokes during the long car ride.  I loved how he joked about us needing a smoke with his dad's best maduro cigars (because of the really bad storm and the really muddy clothes). And I loved how he kept his cool when we got lost, shivering and stuck in traffic.

I've learned that falling in love isn't really about having the perfect date or finding the perfect boy.  It is actually about connecting with a guy who's perfect for you.  Finding your guy type and building your crush profile should be fun, and like most meaningful things, it can't-and shouldn't-be done all in one day.  Get to know yourself and get to know guys as friends, classmates, neighbors-and you'll have a clearer picture of what works for you. Don't be too quick to finalize.  You can change your mind anytime and start over.

How did your first date turn out?

  3. Oh yeah, I agree with Jellybelly...why for Moms like us, it's okay to go out on a date early but we normally would not allow the same for our own kids. Hahaha.

  10. Wow, this is good exercise! My first date was emotion-filled: the parents didn't approve of the guy, yet we went ahead. So, it was memorable in a way because it has the illicit effect. Ha ha!
