Five Tips On Taking Your Child to His First Baseball Game

I see it!

For most dads, baseball is an obsession.  It might probably have started when they started playing baseball with the neighborhood kids.  They have a wide collection of baseball cards which they trade and buy – no matter how much the price, know every single player in the league, can recite stats from every major game, they probably won’t want to miss any single game and they would love to pass on baseball love to their children as a legacy as well.  In fact,  it is so easy to spot dads who are big baseball fans. Their babies are showing their baseball love by wearing Red Sox baby clothes!   And once the children are old enough, taking the children to a baseball game is a must, like some sort of rite of passage.

Of course, kids will be kids and moms like me would insist that there are millions of reasons  why you should totally avoid going to a baseball game - like the cost and endless requests to take them to the bathroom in the middle of the game, but if dad is so excited to take the kids to their first major baseball event, here are a few things you should be mindful of:

  1.  Prepare your child for the game.  Try watching a couple of baseball games for kids.  Read books about baseball.  Or dad can take him to a baseball game in the neighborhood.
  2. Buy your child his very own team cap and jersey.
  3.  Let dad talk about his favorite player and let your child get excited into watching him in action.
  4. Your child may be restless in his seat.  Make sure you bring snacks and small toys to keep them entertained.
  5. The weather can be unpredictable.  It can get windy on a warm day so don’t forget to bring an extra hoodie or jacket.

And oh, don’t forget to take loads of pictures!

The more serious a relationship gets, the more one demands commitment, loyalty and honesty.  One single deception, a little lie which can turn into a bigger lie, may permanently seal a couple’s fate.

But what if you lied to your partner about splurging your salary on that cute outfit?

Or fibbed about how great his mother is even if you don’t really like her?

Or swore he cooked a great prime rib steak although you secretly shared it with your dog after just a few bites?

Eye Makeup 1-2-3: Tmart’s 88-Color Matte Pearlescent Eye Shadow Palette

I have lots of rockin’ eye shadow shades during my Mineral Makeup Mania days, but that collection did not prepare me for Tmart’s  88-Color Matte Pearlescent Eye Shadow Palette!

I was overwhelmed!  88 colors!  I mean, it had everything!  I would have wanted to paint all of the colors on me (but I don’t wanna be a parrot hehe).

Tmart.com’s 88-color eyeshadow palette is a makeup artist’s or wanna-be beauty queen’s dream come true.  It features:

  • Very pigmented, vibrant colors which is a mix and match of matte and pearlescent eye shadows,
  • Safe, high-quality ingredients which gives colors that can last all day,
  • And a built-in mirror for your convenience.

Now, how to make sense of all these eye shadow colors?

Here is a quick Eye Makeup 1-2-3 :  Applying Eyesahdows 101

First of all, do you use eye makeup because you like the colors so much?

I have done this mistake before.  I was given samples of mineral eye shadows with very  pigmented colors (think Effie Trinkett of The Hunger Games!) and I would like to use them all.

Here is a reality – Eye makeup is designed to make your eyes stand out.  Your eye makeup can backfire if you choose shades that compete with your eye color.

The secret of good eye makeup is so simple – Eye makeup is supposed to enhance your eyes! While vibrant eye shadows can look good on your Instagram (and Camera 360 will enhance everything), in real life, we women should stick to more neutral shades.  The goal is to make your eyes get noticed – not your eye makeup.

Keep in mind these 1-2-3 steps.  Think LIGHT, MEDIUM, DARK!

Dust a pale or light yellow face powder all over your lids.  This will serve as a base for your eye shadow to adhere to.

Choose your Eye shadow base.  Look for a color that will blend into your skin tone such as white, sand,  or light brown.  What does not work (and I made this mistake a lot of times in the past)?  Pink or any shadow with a reddish tone.  This will make you look tired, which is the very thing that we are trying to avoid.   Apply your base with a fat eye shadow brush and blend the color from your lashes to your brow bone.

Choose a medium-toned shadow that would not require a lot of blending.  Apply on the lid up to the crease.  For beginners, choose a couple of basic neutral shades and once you can identify what colors work for you, you can try to experiment with more dramatic eye shadow hues.

Get hold of a soft, fluffy eye shadow brush.  Apply the color close to the lashes, over the lid and three quarters of the way up the eye.  If you are having a hard time blending the color, the color is too dark.

Use a soft, fluffy eye shadow brush and apply the color close to the lashes, over the lid and  three quarters of the way up the eye.  If you have to work too hard to blend it, the color is too dark.

Use charcoal, dark brown or mahogany to line your eyes.  Some makeup experts claim that bright colors like neon green or electric blue won’t work because they will clash with your eye makeup.  Others claim that light or white eye liner will make your eyes bigger.  You can experiment and decide which works best for you, although if you want to be on the more conservative side, go for the darker shade.

You can line just the top of your lid.  Line all the way across.  Some just do the bottom, but this only make your eyes look tired.  For stand-out eyes, line all the way around the eyes.  Use a liner brush and apply as close to your lashes as possible.  Don’t worry if it is not perfect.  Use your finger or a cotton swab/Q-tip to smudge it.

To get your own 88-Color Matte Pearlescent Eye Shadow Palette, go to Tmart.com!  And oh, you can find a variety of other beauty accessories like the 32-pieces Professional Cosmetic Makeup Brush set with free pink bag.

Make Moving Easier On Your Kids

You should be excited moving to your new home, right?

Keeping fit and healthy starts in the home. Kids need physical activity to build strength, coordination, and confidence and it is the parent’s responsibility to lay the groundwork for a healthy lifestyle. How can you do this, you ask? The answer is simple – engage in physical activities with them and make it a daily habit.

For kids, fitness means playing and being physically active. Once they enter nursery until they get to big school, exercise comes in the form of playing tag with friends, P.E. classes, and attending organized sports such as basketball or swimming. However, parents can no longer rely on physical education in schools to provide enough physical activity for kids. They need to play a more active role and make fitness a family routine.

Senior Citizen's Discount When Dining Out In The Philippines

“It’s nice to be a senior because of these benefits.  Kidding aside, there are some establishments who do not honor the senior citizen discount. Tsk tsk…”

I bet most of you have parents or relatives in their senior years qualified for the benefits under Republic Act No. 9994.

But did you know that:

Any person who refuses to honor the Senior Citizen’s Card or violates any provision of Republic Act No. 9994 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations may suffer imprisonment of not less than two years and a fine of not less than P50,000.00 but not exceeding P100,000.00?

Dining Out with Our Senior Loved Ones

We show our love to our Senior Citizen family members and friends by treating them to a meal every weekend.  When dining out with a Senior Citizen, keep the following in mind:

If a group of 5 comprised of four (4) Non-Senior Citizens and one (1) Senior Citizen dines in a restaurant, how should the group be billed?

Did You Know? Senior Citizens Can Use Other IDs to Avail of the Benefits Under R.A. 9994

Republic Act No. 9994, otherwise known as the "Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010" gave senior citizens, or those resident citizens of the the Philippines 60 years old and above, benefits such as 20 percent discount on their basic purchases of basic essential goods and services such as medicines, transportation, medical and dental fees, and hotel and restaurant services.   Purchases covered by the discount are also considered exempt from the value-added tax.

This 20% discount and Vat exemption can only be availed of by a Senior Citizen if he has a Senior Citizen ID, right?

Senior Citizens can avail of the benefits under the Republic Act by using either the following Identification Cards:
  • Philippine Passport
  • Senior Citizens' Identification Card
  • Driver's License
  • PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) Card
  • Postal ID or
  • Voter's ID.
The following is an infographic provided by ABS-CBN News on what benefits our elderly should be enjoying under the Republic Act:

A Musical Adventure

My children have different music tastes.  Daughter 1 loves pop songs, Daughter 2 loves rock music while the Only Boy is into any cool boy song (I caught him taking a video of himself a week ago dancing to The Maroon 5’s cover of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” with a background sounding like those giardinelli professional bb trumpets at guitar center).

And as I strive to understand their music, I intend to go on a musical adventure with them and :

  • Write down all my impressions of each song a child likes
  • Take note of why I think my kid likes it.
  • Make a list of songs I Instantly like and why.
  • Make a list of songs I can’t stand and why.
  • Make a playlist of songs they listen to.

Mixbook: Create Your Own Photobook!

Regular, as in practically Every. Day.

MedelaMoms Launches "Seeing Doubles": A Support Group for Moms with Multiples

I may not talk about it a lot (although I plan to, soon), but I am a breastfeeding advocate.  I breastfed my youngest for five years!  While working, too!  Back in June 2005 when Adrian was born, I decided to breastfeed him for as long as he wanted.   It was difficult, because I work full time and back then, Medela, which is considered as the gold standard for breast pumps was not easily available here in my tiny Baguio City. But, in between rushing home from work, saving milk in bottles and freezing them, mastitis and baby bites that hurt a lot, I was able to give Adrian my milk.  For five years!  It was difficult, because I had bouts with dwindling milk supply.  I cannot imagine how moms of multiples can manage.

{Teen World} Music Can Save Lives

By: Gabrielle Nicole B. Bulatao

(Note: This was a post my fifteen year old daughter wrote, unedited, in response to my concern on why she changed her musical taste - from being a big One Direction fan to a rock music fan.)

It is believed that music can save lives, but what kind of music are people exactly thinking about? What genre does “music that save lives” specifically fall under? Our generation seems to have problems with their self-esteem due to society’s unreachable expectations. People cope with it through music.

As a 15 year old girl who had lots of experiences going through lots of bullying, self esteem issues and such, because well society... I needed music I can relate to, musicians that would write
