Your Newborn Baby: Blood Incompatibility

It is sometimes distressing for a new parent to be informed that the baby will require prolonged stay in the nursery due to “problems of incompatibility.”  The pediatrician may say that the baby had exhibited symptoms such as early jaundice or yellowing of the skin, due to the destruction of the baby’s red blood cells

Teaching Your Kids to be Organized

A house, no matter how tidy and neat, changes forever once there are kids: expect mess and clutter everywhere!

messy-house

While most parents continually complain about scattered toys, torn books, broken crayons and lots of crumpled paper, kids love being surrounded by their possessions.  Seeing, touching and feeling their toys and things give children a sense of security.  But they will have to learn to clean up after themselves.

Here are some ways to help them learn how to be organized.
BunnyPut toy bins where kids can reach them and where they can put their toys after each play session.  This early, kids should learn to separate school things from toys.
BunnyEncourage your children to arrange their things for school, like shoes and socks before bedtime, so that dressing up in the morning is more relaxed and stress-free.  Allow them to choose what they want to wear so that they don’t feel like they’re just performing chores but doing something for themselves.
BunnySplit up the tasks according to ability.  Sing a “clean-up” song that your kids can always associate with putting away their toys.
BunnyDon’t forget to acknowledge your child’s efforts with a kind word and a pat in the back.mufavicon

I have found my One-Stop Shopping Destination in iprice

The people from LBC know me na!

I practically have a package every week.

That’s how much I love online shopping!

It is amazing how we can buy things we love in our pajamas, right?

girl-in-pjs-on-laptop

But did you know that online shopping will be 21 years old in August 2015???

The concept of online shopping seems so new here in the Philippines, but the first ever online purchase was successfully made in August 1994 when Sting’s album Ten Summoner’s Tales (which happens to be one of my favorite albums) was sold for $12.48 by NetMarket.com.

Since then, ecommerce stores have dramatically grown in leaps and bounds, even here in the Philippines, with new e-commerce shops like iprice!

FAQ:BIR 2015 Income Tax eFiling

Ever since the BIR made serious its intention to strictly implement BIR eFiling, a lot of questions have been asked.

FAQ BIR eFiling
Here is an FAQ on eFiling pursuant to Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 19-2015 dated April 13, 2015:

1. What are the available electronic platforms of the BIR in filing tax return?

Income Tax Hack: An Insider’s Guide to Preparing Your Philippine Income Tax in Record Time

“The 1701 Form is making me crazy!
Hi Marie!
I've been reading your blog for a while now. It's been really helpful, but
can you show me how to fill up the 1701 form?
I've read your blog post about it, but I'm not familiar with the lingo. Can
you break it down, as in parang nag-eexplain ka sa isang college freshman.
If it's not too much to ask. I would really REALLY appreciate it.”

Why Boys wear blue and Why I ShopBack!

I have two girls and I loved dressing them up when they were little kids.  They were like my living dolls.  Going out was a major fashion event as I dressed them up in cute dresses with matching bags and sandals.   I also made sure they have to look fabulous even when we were just hanging out at home.  OA much but I dressed them up in matching outfits even when they were about to sleep!

Then my little boy came and I was left with a wide choice of hmmm…Generic. Blue. Baby. Wear…

boys-wear-blue

Girls just look soo good in pink…

girls-wear-pink

Unfortunately, baby boy clothes don’t offer quite the same range of choices as baby girl clothes.  So I ended up dressing up my boy in blue onesies, white sandos, white pajamas .  Dressing him up was not as exciting as it was with my girls.

Please do take note that this was nine years ago and fashion has now evolved to fortunately include baby boys!

Zalora-baby-wear

I was browsing online for baby clothes and I drooled (sort of) and wished I still have a little boy to dress up!  I know mommies (and titas and ninangs and grandmas of little boys) will be pleased to know that  ZALORA Marketplace has a wide variety of baby boy accessories!

Like this cute baby fedora hat with royal baby blue stripes:

Bakit wala yan nung baby si Adrian?!

Cute baby accessories truly complete a get-up.  They add an extra oomph, an extra “ang cute!” compliment.

All of these sooo cute baby boy outfits can be found at Zalora, one of my favorite online stores where I do my shopping – a lot!
(Bihira mo na nga akong makita sa mall, eh…)

Bakit naman daw ako online shopping addict na?

Because it is so convenient! I do not have to brave the traffic; I don’t have to contend with the large shopping crowd; I get paid to shop!

Yep, you heard that right, I get paid to shop, and you can, too, if you sign up with ShopBack!

ShopBack

ShopBack is a cashback site, meaning they pay you, the customer, to shop online! A part of your purchases goes back to you as cash.

Why would they pay you?

ShopBack gets a commission every time they bring shoppers to ShopBack merchants’ sites. ShopBack is then sharing the money with the customer!

Look how much you can get back when you use ShopBack:

why-use-ShopBack

How Does ShopBack Work?

Every time you go to ShopBack, a list of merchant stores (like my favorite Zalora and Lazada) are shown. Click through your favorite online store and shop. After you shop, cashback would be awarded to your ShopBack account, which you can cash out to your bank account or PayPal.

Look! Up to 16% Cashback with Zalora!

I am definitely getting this cute bonnet from Zalora via ShopBack because it made me fall in love with blue again:

And oh, one last bit of randomness before you head to our new favorite ShopBack site.

Did you know that pink used to be a baby boy’s color?

Here’s what  Smithsonian.com had to say:

“Ladies' Home Journal article in June 1918 said, "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." Other sources said blue was flattering for blonds, pink for brunettes; or blue was for blue-eyed babies, pink for brown-eyed babies, according to Paoletti.

In 1927, Time magazine printed a chart showing sex-appropriate colors for girls and boys according to leading U.S. stores. In Boston, Filene's told parents to dress boys in pink. So did Best & Co. in New York City, Halle's in Cleveland and Marshall Field in Chicago”.

It was in the 1940s that baby clothing manufacturers settled on blue for boys and pink for girls.

Whatever the color, though, just make sure you consider these six things when buying baby clothes and baby boy accessories.  Your fashionable baby boy clothes should fit your baby boy perfectly and he should be comfortable with what he is wearing.  mufavicon

Little Black Dress 101

There comes a time in your life – read: once or twice a year –when you need to trade your  comfy jeans and white shirt – for a red carpet-worthy fabulous special occasion dress.

If there is something I have learned from fashionista friends, it is this: trends come and go, but that does not mean you have to wear trends that is not you.  It also does not mean you need to sacrifice comfort just to keep up with what’s in.

One key staple that can be styled in multiple ways and can be worn in different occasions is the timeless Little Black Dress.

Implementation of eFiling of “No Payment Income Tax Returns Deferred

This week has been particularly tough on Philippine taxpayers.

Bakit, ‘kanyo?

The BIR wanted to STRICTLY IMPLEMENT eFILING via the issuance of Revenue Regulation No. 5-2015 published March 19, 2015 (barely a month before the Income Tax deadline).

The problem: It was hard accessing the eBIRForms and eFPS sites due to usage overload.

The BIR suggested alternative sites to download the eBIRForms,

but a lot of taxpayers still have a difficult time with the system, considering that not all taxpayers are computer-savvy and that it is hard to access the sites.

“No Payment” Returns filed manually shall be re-filed electronically ON OR BEFORE JUNE 15, 2015.
Penalties imposed under RR No. 5-2015 on filing using a mode/venue differed from that prescribed shall be waived provided the subject ITRs have been RE-SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY in the BIR’s systems on or before JUNE 15, 2015.”mufavicon

Income Tax Filing: for Employees: What is BIR Form 2316?

I often get this question from my readers:

“I have been working for three years and I have never filed an Income Tax Return.  Should my employer give me my Income Tax Return?  They just give me a copy of BIR Form 2316 at the beginning of the year.  As an employee, shouldn’t I be required to file my Income Tax Return?”
ID-100246795

An income tax return is one of the reports filed by both Filipinos and foreigners who are deriving income on or before the fifteenth (15th) day of April of each year covering the income for the preceding taxable year.

For an individual earning purely compensation income, you need to file BIR Form 1700.

Related: I am an employee.  How can I get my TIN?

Compute your withholding Tax

However, if you received purely compensation income from only one employer in the Philippines for the calendar year and your income tax has been correctly withheld by your employer (tax due equals tax withheld), the BIR Form No. 1604C/F filed by your employer to the BIR shall constitute as your Income Tax Return and that the BIR Form 2316 shall serve the same purpose as if BIR Form No. 1700 has been filed.

This means that your BIR Form 2316 is your Income Tax Return.

The following taxpayers may file manually “no payment returns” for taxable year 2014 (Deadline: April 15, 2015) to the Revenue District Office (RDO) where registered using officially printed forms/photocopied or electronic/computer-generated returns:

ID-100283776

  2. Employees deriving purely compensation income and the income tax of which has been withheld correctly showing tax due is equal to the tax withheld whether single or multiple employers (with two or more employers concurrently and successively at anytime during the taxable year);
  3. Employees qualified for substituted filing under RR 2-298, but opted to file for an Income Tax Return and are filing for purposes of promotion (PNP/AFP), loans, scholarship, foreign travel requirements, etc.
These taxpayers are encouraged to use offline eBIRforms for ease and convenience in the preparation, validation, computation rules and efficiently check for completeness and correctness of taxpayer’s data input. However, they are encouraged as much as possible to file their returns electronically to avoid the crowd and long lines.
