I guess this is a common story we moms have. We barely get a decent sleep! We Filipinos have a street word for it – ngarag.
ngarag (n.) A word from the Filipino urbanite that means:
1. soooooo exhausted or crazy exhausting
2. noun. like haggard 1. I’m now ngarag over these term papers that I’m rushing.
2. You seem to look ngarag *Source:www.urbandictionary.com
We moms get so ngarag because of our baby’s late night feedings or our kids are nursing a fever or they they are scared there are monsters in the closet or we had to catch that late night teleserye. Whatever the reason of our “ngarag-ness” (o.k., I made up that word. Will it end up at the Urban Dictionary?) , I am so sure that getting little sleep can actually make you feel worse than you already do. Fortunately, there are beauty tricks to make you look like you’ve got your eight-hour sleep. Here they are:
Beauty Trick 1: Start with a scrub.
There is a lot happening to our body when we sleep. Like did you know your skin is doing most of its repair work, like getting rid of those wrinkles and whisking away those dead cells when you sleep? That’s why not getting enough sleep ALWAYS makes your skin feel and look so lifeless. How to fake: Washing your face and using a gentle scrub in the morning will wake up your skin and will make it glow. Glowing skin will make you look good. I particularly like using Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Skin Cleansing System which, aside from reducing the appearance of those ugly big pores, dry skin patches and blemishes, is very gentle (it includes one brush for sensitive skin!) and can be used by people with the most sensitive skin (don’t look at me) and with skin conditions like rosacea, eczema and acne.
It also comes in cool colors like lavender! Soo cute!
Beauty Trick 2: Soothe puffy eyes.
Try washing your face with cold water in the morning ( a friend actually swears that she rubs ice on her face every morning). The cold will bring down the swelling, shrink the capillaries and encourage lymphatic drainage. Use a hydrating under-eye cream to soothe your lids, then use a concealer that contains light-refracting pearls that brighten the eyes. One of the cult favorites is La Mer The Eye Concentratewhich claims to condition, smooth and hydrate your tired eyes. You can also do the following to prevent puffy eyes:
- Prop your head up with an extra pillow during the night, and
- do jumping jacks or jog in place when your alarm goes off.
Doing these will get your blood and lymphatic systems flowing.
Beauty Trick 3: Even out tired-looking skin.
When we see that ashen-looking facial skin, we tend to put on heavy make up to cover up our blaah-looking complexion. Don’t. Using heavy makeup will just emphasize the wrinkles. Instead, try a lightweight BB or CC cream to even out your skin and give it a dewy glow.

Beauty Trick 4: Add some color to your cheeks.
Peach blush looks so pretty and makes your skin glow. Create a healthy looking flush by dabbing cream blush on to the apples of your cheeks. Blend well. The key is that everything should look natural!
Beauty Trick 5: Draw attention to your lips.
One of the best ways to disguise bloodshot eyes is by drawing attention away from them. Make your lips the focal point on your face by wearing a bold shade of gloss or lipstick. Bright hues of red and pink are hot, so don’t be afraid to try a more daring color than you’re used to.
