Let’s talk about my first love.
Yup, I was that geek, that bookworm in the school yard who would rather stay in a corner reading a good book than hanging out with those posh girls who talk about fashion, makeup and boys.
Not that I had a dull social life, because I did hang out with girls who liked reading as well and so we visited each other’s house and talked about our books (okay, now that I think about it, it was a dull social life…)
I was in love with books.
O, see, you guys can relate!
And let’s talk about my current and forever love.
My family.
I am a working mom with three kids representing all the educational levels.
I have an eight year old boy in the second grade, a fifteen year old daughter in third year high school and a seventeen year old girl in second year college.
Between them and my quest to run a neat and clean household, my first love takes a back seat.
Reading books is absolutely in the back burner now.
No wonder I always end up with a very long To Be Read Book List!
But here is one good thing about this golden age of technology. You can have the best of everything by downloading the best audiobook apps that would make your life easier.
Seriously.
I have a chore app which I am going to talk about in a future post (this app created peace in a family of kids struggling to create amazing excuses to escape a chore) and I also have an app which makes me catch up with my reading while doing my laundry or doing some boring housework – Audible.

From Audible website |
It is the world’s leading provider of audio books and premium digital spoken audio information and entertainment on the internet.
To be honest, I had second thoughts on “reading a book” by “listening” to it.
Confusing, right?
But if you are big into reading like I am, any chance to “read” is welcome.
Since I am so pooped by bedtime I don’t even have a chance to read, catching up on my reading while running on the treadmill or cooking or doing the laundry while listening to my audio book downloaded from Audible is absolutely welcome.
Signing in with Audible.com is such a breeze for me, especially since I have an Amazon account.
Upon sign up, you will get an audiobook of your choice, free, with a 30-day trial.
After the trial, you can opt to have a paid membership along with the perks like discounts and promotions.
And if you absolutely think that the audio book your purchased is not a perfect fit for you (read:you hate it), you can
always return it and get a reimbursement.
I am so glad I am catching up on myreading (listening?) while trying to do an extra kilometer on the treadmill.
I just finished Suze Orman’s “FinancialFreedom: Creating True Wealth Now” and I am currently listening to another one
of her books, “The Laws of Money, The Lessons of Life:Keep What You Have and Create What You
Deserve”.
I absolutely love these audio books because they are so highly motivational, perfect for when you feel like giving up that extra kilometer on your daily run .
And the best thing is that these audio books I downloaded are narrated by Suze Orman herself.
For those of you who are fussy on how the narrator reads the audio book (Kindle has a Text-To-Speech function and the audio really sucks I am better off reading than listening to it), you can sample an audio book before buying it.
It takes a lot of getting used to – “listening” to a book instead of “reading” it, but who is a multi-tasking mom to complain when she can run on the tread mill and have her reading fix as well?
Go over at Audible now and get your free audio book!
Disclosure: I received free audiobooks from Audible. The comments made within the post are in no way reviewed, edited or influenced by any parties, including the Sponsor. All opinions are 100% that of mine.
Audible is a book lover's bestfriend nowadays. They kinda give those people who are always busy and on the go, a chance to read (or listen) to a certain book they wanted.
Some audio voice overs are either funny…or scary. I once tried listening to an audio of the Bible and instead of being blessed, I had to turn the sound off and just read. The voice sounds ominous, like a doomsday prophet instead of someone telling of the Good News. lol!
This is nice. My daughter loves reading and always into her gadgets. She'll benefit from this. 🙂
Haven't tried audibles although i downloaded the app. I love to read as well and i'm glad that i'm still able to squeeze in an hour of reading from time to time. Yun lang kaya eh, sobrang busy rin kasi. 🙂
For some reason, I prefer to read the actual book because I have a migraine and reading it in a gadget triggers my worst enemy.
Havent tried it but I dont know if it same feeling when reading a real book, I mean yung papel talaga.
aww I still like reading books.. and not just ebooks.. I want real books! haha
