This post is dedicated to my eldest daughter who has given me nothing but pride, joy and happiness. The first half of the year marked significant milestones. Barely out of her teens, she graduated from college and within a month after receiving her degree, she has aced her board exams.
As our first-born, she has not more than once, voiced out her concern about my expectations from her, but I knew that she thrived at my and her expectations. And as she goes through this journey called life, I know that she will thrive with the promise of future celebrations. Because I know she knows that with her cheerfulness, joie d’ vivre and innate kindness, she will seize life.
Dear Young Lady,
I so know you love school and I am so sure you are missing it na, but I am sure you will admit that one of the best things about graduating from college is that it broke your bond as a student and it marked your entry into the confusing world your parents have no choice but to live with everyday. For the following months, as you try to seek your luck in the professional world, you also get to be someone else – writer, blogger, chef, thespian, tourist, beach bum, bookworm, photographer, professional ice cream eater… You get to be whoever you want to be.
But I’ve got a question for you: How do you figure out exactly who you want to be? You’re a great singer but you also kind of rock at dancing. You enjoy performing onstage but you also have a grand time working behind the scenes. You love reading books that make you think but you also love mindless comedies. You hate exercise but you love to run. You’re artsy but athletic, hipster-chic but pop fabulous. You’re a painter-slash-blogger-slash-baker-slash-poet, and sometimes it just gets downright confusing. People would have probably told you to make up your mind, pick one and commit to it. But hey, guess what? There is no limit to the number of things you can be passionate about. With enough determination and drive which you have, it’s totally possible to be many things at once.
So go ahead and explore the world, discover what gets your heart racing, and seek out all the places where you can make a mark. There is a blissful exhilaration in the process of figuring things out. You’ve just got to trust that, sooner or later, you will end up exactly where you’re supposed to be, doing something you absolutely and positively love. As you ponder on your future and contemplate on getting a job, find out what makes you happy – whether it’s music or poetry or fashion design or yoga or surfing or archery – and if the answer happens to be more than one, I hope you know that’s perfectly okay.
And as you discover yourself and your passion, don’t forget that your mom here is cheering you on. Yes, this mom who makes the smallest of milestones (like our dog being able to roll over after weeks of training ) an excuse to have a grand celebration is always ready to throw a party for you.
Ready na nga ang mga Cheers products sa pantry e!
Yep! The Cheers napkins that I have an endless stash on, the ones I religiously use for all the celebrations, big and small, that we did, yes, the ones I used on you guys to wipe your snots and bums when I run out of regular tissue paper (because they are so matibay but gentle on your sensitive skin). I am so sure if buhay itong mga Cheers products na ito, they will be celebrating with you. Why not? You have grown up with with these products. They would have seen you grow, bloom and spread cheer!
And bet on it. As you go through life, I will be here cheering you on the way you cheer me and your dad and your younger sister and brother.
Cheers to life, Cheers to everyday!
