There are hundreds of schools with programs dedicated to military personnel. Whether you’re a veteran or currently in active duty, most colleges are willing to work with military students. That’s because they prove time and time again that they are dedicated and persevering students who just want to do something after their time in the military is up. Many schools have created their own military programs to help veterans even further. For example, the Education Department’s Veterans Upward Bound Program offers military students more opportunities in college including help with injuries and transition back into school after active duty. There are lots of college benefits for military students that go even further.
If you’re headed into the military, currently serving or just received an honorable discharge, you’re probably trying to decide what to do with your GI Bill. This is the best time to spend that money on going to school and earning a degree in a field that will use your experience and expertise. With the Yellow Ribbon program and many other educational benefits, you can get a free ride to go to college as a military personnel. The Post 9/11 GI Bill offers thousands of dollars to pay for your housing, tuition and living expenses while going to school. You only have to have served 90 days in the military in order to receive it.
In addition, the GI Bill allows you to pick any accredited institution. You can go to school at a public, private or even foreign school. If you have the Post 9/11 GI Bill, you can also transfer any unused benefits to your spouse and children, which allows them to go to school as well. In general, you need six years of service in order to transfer benefits. Children have about 15 years to use these benefits. This not only allows you to save on college, but you can also transfer your remaining college funds and save for your children as well.
If you plan on going to an online school, your GI Bill still applies. You can pay for housing, living costs and tuition with your funds. Many military personnel choose to start their education while they’re currently serving and graduate while they’re on duty, which allows them to go to graduate school when they’re finished or head out into the workforce right from the military.
There are also a ton of financial aid programs available for military students. You can find scholarships that help all types of veterans and their families. There are even more programs on campus or in online schools to help veterans transition into college and find jobs in the workforce. While it can be difficult to find support groups, there are a variety of schools that focus solely on making their campuses as military-friendly as can be.
Going to college is the best way to make use of your GI Bill and work towards a better future for yourself and your family.
My sister did this, she works for the government still, but the college helped her get the job.
These is great news for those in military services!
This is a great news for everyone!
All you need to do is serve and love your job. ๐
