Hello Super Moms!
I know many of you are preparing for the new school year, but are there first-time parents here?
I haven’t done this before! How do I enroll and prepare my child for kindergarten?
As a first-time parent, seeing your child embark on her educational journey can be as exciting, as it is nerve-wracking.
IKR? When my kids started school, I think I was more excited than they were!
The smell of new books, the sound of little feet scampering off to school, the sight of your child’s first school uniform. Oh, it sends a thrill down your spine, doesn’t it?
But before we jump into all those beautiful memories-to-be, there’s a crucial first step – Kindergarten Enrollment!
Here, we’ll walk you through all the essentials you need to know in enrolling and preparing your child for kindergarten.
And hey, a little later, we will talk about how to prepare your child for kindergarten and avoid those unexpected meltdowns!

Let’s begin!
Deciphering the Enigma of Kindergarten Enrollment
Choosing and enrolling your child in her first school is a significant milestone for any parent. Having gone through this three times make me sort of an expert lol!
Here is all the information you’ll need to make enrolling your kid in kindergarten in the Philippines a breeze!
Finding the Perfect Kindergarten

As parents, we all want the best for our little ones. We wish to see them grow and develop in the most nurturing environment.
Selecting the right kindergarten is the first step in this lifelong journey of learning. Always remember, the school should cater to your child’s needs and personality and not the other way around.
Make sure you do thorough research, visit the school, and try to interact with the faculty.
Your child’s comfort and development should always be the top priority.
Kindergarten Enrollment Requirements in the Philippines
Now that you have chosen the right school, it’s time to understand the paperwork involved. Each school may have its specific requirements, but here are the common documents that you’ll likely need:
- Birth Certificate: Your child’s PSA birth certificate is the primary document needed for enrollment. This official record establishes your child’s age and citizenship. You can order your child’s birth certificate, like I did, at PSAHelpline.ph. (by the way, I love the convenience they offer! I once ordered my birth certificate when I needed it for my office record and I got it in like 2 days considering that I ordered it during the Holy Week! Talk about extra convenience!)Some schools, like St. Louis School Center, my alma mater in Baguio City, require a marriage certificate. You can get it online at PSA, too.
- Medical Certificate: Schools need to ensure that your child is healthy and fit to attend school. Your pediatrician can provide this certificate. It’s also essential to provide an immunization record.
- Report Card: If your child has attended preschool, the new school will need her report card for reference.
- 2×2 ID Picture: Keep a few handy; you’ll be surprised how many you might need during this process!
The Actual Enrollment Process: What to Expect
Now, to the main event! The process may differ from school to school, but here’s the general flow:
- Submission of Requirements: Bring all your documents and head to your chosen school for the enrollment process. Remember, it’s better to have too many copies than too few.
- Fill out the Registration Form: Here, you’ll be asked for some essential details about your child and your family.
- Payment of Fees: This usually includes tuition, miscellaneous fees, and other costs (like uniforms, books, etc.). Ensure you understand what’s covered in the fees to avoid future surprises.
- Confirmation of Enrollment: Once everything is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation of your child’s enrollment.
Most schools have assessments and entrance tests. Make sure your child is aware of this. Also, don’t hesitate to ask questions.
A New Adventure Awaits: Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten
I hope you are very aware that enrollment is just the first step.
Because! Your little one is all set to embark on her first big adventure: kindergarten!

This significant milestone is both exciting and nerve-racking for parents and kids alike.
So, to avoid those sad faces on your child’s first day of school photograph, here is a guide on how to assure your child that school will be a fun and exciting adventure.
Remember, your enthusiasm and positive outlook will rub off on your child too!
Understanding Your Child’s Feelings about Kindergarten
Change, no matter how small, can be overwhelming for your little one. It’s crucial to remember that the emotions she is feeling are entirely normal.
Talk to her about her feelings, comfort her if she seems scared, and assure her that everything will be okay. Encouraging an open dialogue can help your child understand and express her feelings better.
The ABCs of Adjusting to Kindergarten

Here are a few tips to help your child adjust to the kindergarten setting:
- Establish a routine: Before school starts, get your child accustomed to the daily routine. Regular bedtime and wake-up time can help your child adjust to the kindergarten schedule.
- Encourage Independence: Teach her basic self-care tasks like tying shoelaces, using the bathroom independently, and opening her lunchbox. These simple tasks can boost herconfidence and make the transition smoother.
- Cultivate Social Skills: Encourage your child to interact with other children. Playdates and park visits can help develop essential social skills.
Read, Read, and Read Some More
Books are a fantastic way to prepare your child for their big day. There are numerous children’s books that talk about starting school, making friends, and other kindergarten-related topics. Reading such books can help your child understand what to expect and ease her kindergarten jitters.

Play to Learn: Pre-Kindergarten Activities at Home
Play is an essential part of a child’s learning process. Incorporate educational games and activities into her playtime to stimulate her learning. This can include alphabet games, simple counting activities, and pretend play. Make learning fun, and your child will be more than ready for kindergarten!
Visiting the School Beforehand: A Sneak Peek
Arrange a visit to the school with your child before the school year begins. Seeing the classrooms, playground, and meeting her teacher can help familiarize your child with the new environment and reduce first-day anxiety.
Healthy Conversations About Kindergarten
Talk to your child about her new school and what she can expect. Encourage questions and answer heras honestly and simply as you can. Keeping an open dialogue about her feelings and expectations can help in alleviating any fears or anxieties.
Your Child is Ready for the Big Day!
