Teaching children good and healthy habits, especially good dental habits, is the key to establish good health practices.

Many researchers claim that children who were taught how to brush and maintain a good dental hygiene in their childhood are significantly less prone to developing dental health problems in the future. People often don’t know when to start teaching their children about oral
hygiene.

The answer’s quite simple, really. Your child’s journey to good dental habits should ideally begin from the day that their whites start to appear.

During the first year it is important to clean your baby’s teeth gently. During this period, teething may be painful. Hence, make use of a soft brush that is specially designed for infants.

It is a great idea to start emphasizing on the necessity of dental care in the initial stages of your child’s life. It has to include discussing the necessity of good dental hygiene and scheduling a cleaning routine regularly. This content will give you brilliant ideas for your kids’ pearly whites!

Here are some effective tips on how to teach your children good dental habits.

Allocate significant time for brushing:

Children are usually conditioned into believing a certain set of values or rules that they observe around them. Make it a point to teach your children the importance of brushing at least twice a day in the early stages of their life. It is usually advised to brush after every meal.

Teach various brushing techniques:

Just telling them to brush their teeth won’t help the cause. Children need guidance. Teach them how to brush right. Guide your children on how to brush their teeth. Focus on the various brushing techniques that are to be used for a good dental hygiene.

Mouthwash:

Mouthwash is very important to maintain oral hygiene. Once your children are old enough, Make sure you implement the use of mouthwash to their daily routine. Supervise the use of mouthwash at all times. Read the instructions on the label before you let your children use it.

Add flossing:

Flossing is the key component of dental care. It is an effective way to prevent gum diseases. You have to teach your children to incorporate this activity into their regular dental routine.

Have regular dental appointments:

Most dentists suggest that children should be brought in for their first dental check-up by their first birthday.

This will assist in early detection of cavities and other related health issues. Regular appointments will help your child develop a healthy relationship with your dentist. Let them know that a dental appointment is not always as scary as they assume.

Be a role model:

Children learn from role models. Be your child’s role model and help them develop healthy dental habits. Let your children see you
maintain a good dental hygiene. They will learn better by looking at live examples. Be enthusiastic about dental care and you will watch your children learn the importance of good dental habits.

I agree it's very important to have good dental hygiene while young. It gets into their routine and will carry when they're older. Need to be very, very patient though 🙂

Before brushing my son's teach was like a battle. But now, he's getting used to is. Although brushing is not enough, I regularly use floss and cotton cloth his teeth.
