Like most of you, my bank account is still devastated from the hurricane of expenses brought about by the opening of school. The school year has gotten really messed up, don’t you think? Just after I almost totaled my bank account last June for Nicole and Adrian’s school stuff and tuition fee, here came August and I had to pay for V’s school chuvaness naman! Back in my time, everybody started their school in June! This year, three big schools in the city (including V’s) decided to open school in August.
Books, uniforms, shoes, notebooks – all these made serious dents in my pocket. I even had to buy a whole caboodle of white socks. To this day, I am wondering why socks in my house end up with No.Pair.At.All. Do strange things like this happen to your house, too?
Needless to say, money is tight, but I’m not worried. I have an uncle who, when asked about the state of his finances, would always say, “zero balance” and would try to sell me weird stuff like this opened “Malunggay Juice” in a litro bottle which Adrian calls sewer juice. Of course, I would end up buying his over-priced“sewer juice” just so he can buy bigas and secretly asking his daughter to put the juice back in his ref because he might be the one to really need some serious detoxing.
I take after my mom. Her thinking goes this way, “Kahit wala kang pera, dapat maganda ka!” *
And through thick and thin, she’s always carried on that way. I never saw her looking like she has no money (even if she did). She always had a smile, held her head high, and walked in high heels to boot!
And so, like a good daughter, I’m just following in her footsteps. Today, I only have a thousand in my wallet. Seriously! I had to pay the two kiddos’ tuition fees for the first term and buy V’s opening-of-the-school stuff, but I still went to work smiling like I did not have a credit card bill due tomorrow.
Think happy thoughts and happy events will come your way! That is the secret to becoming truly rich!
Happy Money Monday!
*Always stay pretty even if you have no money.
