Where Do You Leave Your Dog While You Are On Vacation?

I bet you dog-lovers out there like me had to eventually leave your dog behind when you need to travel.

It is not easy to leave your dog behind while you are on vacation, alone, especially in this cold weather!

Fortunately, there are dog hotels like PawPrintInn.com offering a safe, comfortable place for your furry friend to stay and be cared for while you are gone.

Here are things to consider when looking for a temporary living space for your pooch:

Make sure that you pay the dog hotel a visit before deciding to leave your dog there.

Tour the place and make sure that the place is clean and odor-free.  A lot of pet boarding places put dogs in a cage. However, there are pets that are not accustomed to being boxed in and will need a place to move around.

Some dog hotels offer small rooms which closely resemble the home.

Ask how often your dog will be walked or exercised.

Some pet boarding places walk dogs twice a day.

If your dog is used to having more walks, make arrangements with the facility.  It will also be better if there is an enclosed area where your dog can walk safely.

Ask what the facility is going to feed your dog.

Make sure that your dog will be fed with dog food that he is used to.  If the facility does not have the particular
dog food your dog eats, bring his regular food.

Find out if the facility charges extra for this arrangement.  It is also important for the facility to know what your dog can and cannot eat

Ask if your dog can play with other dogs.

Dogs have different temperaments.  Some get excited in a group and could get aggressive.  If the facility offers daily group sessions, make sure that there are attendants to monitor the group.

Make sure you know about the facility’s playtime policies and what will its action be if an injury happens.

What will the facility do if your dog gets injured or sick?

The facility should closely consider the health of its boarders and monitor them closely, one-on-one.  It is also important that the facility is affiliated with a veterinary hospital just in case an emergency happens.

Consider leaving your veterinarian’s name and number so that he can be contacted just in case something happens to your dog.

Know how much you would pay for your dog’s accommodations.

Make sure you know how much you need to pay for your dog’s board and lodging per day.  The rate should be based on the size and dog breed.

Ask if the facility charges extra for add-ons like walking your dog an extra hour or feeding him a special diet.

Knowing beforehand that your dog is in good hands will make your travel fun and trouble-free!

Here in the Philippines, some cannot afford to house their dogs when leaving in vacation. That's why it's always depend to the owner. But, your article is good for this purpose.

It's nice to give clear and concise instruction on how they are treated in the dog hotel.

Having a pet is just like having kids. You have to make sure that everything is well taken care of.
