After thirty straight days of religiously posting here, I am turning this blog over once again to my eldest daughter (but just this one post, Paula, okay?kidding). For her post on those little imperfections that make you who you are, find it here J
During
these past few days, I’ve been reading like mad. Well, since our school offered
us about four days of vacation, I’ve been driven to read just like the old
summer days. So far, I’ve read three books tops. The first book I read, I was
about halfway through it when I’ve gotten completely serious and finished it
fast. The second book, I’ve bought about two days ago. And the last book, well,
still reading. But I’m still thinking of the next book I’m going to massacre
(or in a simple way of saying it, read).

So,
enough with this one-hundred-plus-words intro. I am here to tell you why you
should read a book. In anytime actually. So here it goes:

1.
Reading a book makes
you look and become a whole lot

When I read mags and surf the net, they keep on saying
books make you smarter.
books make you smarter.
They say, and I quote: “With books, you know a lot of
things. You survive. You grow”
things. You survive. You grow”
I don’t doubt that indeed. Since books really do make you
smarter. They widen your field of knowing and make you look a whole lot clever.
Plus, if you were holding a book, whether a novel or a textbook, people take
you more seriously. (Since you’re holding a book, they might think you review a
lot more harder than them! ;)))

So, there’s this book that I’m reading right now with
characters that have a different approach to saying their emotions. They say
stuff like, “bloody (insert word here)!” or call their underground transport as
the “tube”.

While I’m reading this book, I am so captivated by their
different way of saying stuff (they’re british!!) and I actually find myself
talking a whole lot like them! (I don’t really want to stop talking like this!
It’s awesomeJ)

When you read a book,
you speak and write a lot more in…English!!

Believe me! In a span of 3 days, I’ve been speaking a lot
more in English! (I also try talking in British accent, but I think I’m
incredibly failing) I’ve also been writing a lot in English! I just took a scan
of my diary a while ago and noticed that in these past few months I wasn’t
reading a book, everything was written in my national language, Filipino. But
now that I’ve been busying myself in reading, English all the way. Heck, maybe
if someone talks to me right now, I might answer them in English!! J

All the reasons and more to read a book. Yaay! If you
read a book, you actually find out about a lot of things and learn a whole hell
lot more. You also learn how to write things and get inspired to write about
things.

So, before you leave a book ‘round the corner and hold
your remote up to your telly, think of all the things you can imagine (and
experience) while reading a book.

I personally love to read books. I spend the better share of my days reading, whether it be online or with my nose in an honest to goodness book, I have always loved to read. I have tried to instill that love into both of my kids. My daughter loves to read and is required to because of school. My son is just learning, but he loves mommy to read him stories. Now I make him read to me too. Wonderful post!

I really enjoyed your post. I love to read too and so do my grown daughters. I'm really proud of you! Reia from http://www.southcountrysides.blogspot.com
I never watched TV while I was in college. Then I met my husband who watches ESPN all. The. Time.
Anyway, I'd like to nominate your mom for a Liebster Award for blogging. She can see the details on my post here. I hope she'll accept!

i agreed, reading books helps improve your english dictionary.. and yes, you are like your mom, you write perfectly..
I miss the days when I can read 3 books in a day. Now that I have a baby, i have three books which I opened but never finished. I will get back to my reading pag malaki na sya.
I wish I have time to read books, i guess watching too much k-dramas made me dull.
i am a bookworm once but i'm starting to be come one again. it's true, reading books makes you look good and smarter. it can also widen your imagination and perspective in life. 🙂
I agree to all! Apparently I enjoy watching the tube too and I love the telenovelas, hehehehe! (blushes) I honestly find the plots of our local dramas more appealing these days. I prefer short stories too because my interest to finish the whole book is short.
I totally agree. I, at one point, got tired of reading. But when I started reading again last month, I don't know, I kinda "crave" for it. Haha.
I love reading — Twilight Saga. hahah! That's the last book I read and i was in the middle of reading the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, but I stopped. LOL! I wish I have the passion to read books, but Instagramming is much fun for me. I'm a mom of 2 kids so at night, I want to just browse and click without thinking talaga LOL!!!

I used to read romantic novels just because I felt they were easy to read and relaxing. After I went to Medicine, that became history. And since there are still so many updates, I still continue to read Med books and watch TV instead.
i also love to read books, i hunt for bargains hahaha
Yes, you're right! I also find book novels more entertaining than telenovelas! 🙂
I agree with you completely! Books let's you take yourself to places through your imagination, albeit being non-visual. Television just gives it all to you, nothing else to explore.
That is true! When you have a book in your hand and you wear eyeglasses, people would think of you as very smart 🙂 Reading books would really make you smart anyway 🙂
i love reading books too! you should see our bookshelves. hehe
I used to love books too but now, I suddenly slow down reading. Maybe because I'm so busy! But anyway, thanks for this post. I have my kids would read this, too.
Before hubby, kids and house chores came into my life, you wouldn't catch me without a book in my hands – well, except in the shower that is. 😛 Until my preschoolers are a bit older and less dependent though, I'm stuck with Eric Carle's and A.A.Milne's.
I have same thoughts with you about reading a book. I always learn something new whenever I read new books.
I love this post! I love books and I have so many books to devour, but I want more. Being in a bookstore is haven for me. 🙂
You're right about reading but just one thing "read a good book". Thus, it will for sure make you smarter and rather with a positive outcome. It's practice makes perfect but if you're practicing the wrong ones how can it be perfect. So it's better "right practice (of whatever it is) makes perfect".
I am not a bookworm but I agree that it really helps a lot reading books.
Yes, books help you survive 🙂
I really enjoyed your post Venessa. You're really as good as your mom. I love reading books too and I wish I could pass the same to my teenage kids but they're so busy with their dancesport so I can't argue about that. Keep on posting dear. 🙂
i believe that through reading i learn new things.
very well said…
love reading books too!
