Mellow Halloween with Shabby Chic Halloween Pumpkin Decoration Ideas!
One thing that you will see in every home’s Halloween décor is a pumpkin. People often carve Jack-O-Lanterns out of them and they are definitely popular Halloween Pumpkin decorations!
However, if you are are like me – someone who has a soft and feminine shabby chic style – the last thing you want to do is carve eerie faces out of these bright orange pumpkins!
Instead, why don’t you consider creating some shabby chic Halloween pumpkins? You can also ask the kids to get creative with you.
Here are 3 awesome Shabby Chic Halloween Pumpkin decoration ideas:
Shabby Chic Halloween Decoration Idea #1: White-Wash the Halloween Pumpkin
White-washing your pumpkins is one of the more popular ways to go shabby chic.
White washing can be quite easy, and it can be done or plastic or real pumpkins. However, white wash on a fake pumpkin from your local craft store will last longer than on a real pumpkin.
I paint the outside of my pumpkin by using white acrylic paint or chalk paint. By the way, I love using Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint in Titanium White. It produces a thick, creamy satin finish and lends a nice shade of whitewash to my shabby chic pumpkin.
By the way, you should use light strokes on your pumpkin because you would not want it to be solid white. What you are aiming for here is a distressed, old, shabby chic style.
Keep adding light coats of paint until you have achieved the shabby chic look you are happy with.

Shabby Chic Halloween Decoration Idea #2: Create a Victorian-Style Pumpkin
If you are not into shabby chic, the closest thing to getting a classic Halloween decoration idea is going with an old-fashioned Victorian style.
An old-fashioned Victorian style pumpkin will definitely turn your ordinary orange into one that is classy and feminine – which we love, right?
You would want to cover the pumpkin in a fabric or material that makes it look softer and less orange.Next, look for white or pink sheer fabric or lace to put over it, or some lacy doilies and gluing them to the outside.
Finally, you can then add some lace trim or white pearls on the outside. I love using these baby pink fabric flowers from YY Craft:

Your imagination and creativity is the limit, as you use materials or decors that is perfect for a Victorian-style Halloween pumpkin decoration, like this shabby chic Victorian fall pumpkin gourd set chic with pink roses and lace pearls.
Shabby Chic Halloween Decoration Idea #3: Go With Black and White
Following the same type of method as the Victorian-style pumpkin, but with a slightly darker and spookier element, let’s try to go black and white shabby chic.
- Start with a black pumpkin. If you can’t find one in black, get a regular orange pumpkin.
- Next, paint your regular orange pumpkin a solid black color.
- Once the paint is dry, cover it with white sheer fabric or white lace.
- Most of my friends go with spiderwebs, and black plastic spiders and bugs as decor, with a little black bird on top for maximum creep factor.
I love this Pin I saw at Pinterest, though. Isn’t it so shabby chic?
