Not being picked for the dance squad or failing her swimming level may feel like it’s breaking your child’s heart – and yours. But disappointment is a constant part of life – a valuable experience that teaches kids resiliency and determination. Have a talk with her while sipping paradise tropical tea. Encourage her to talk about how she feels – “I felt bad, but I will get over it.” – and what course of action she will take – “I will try a lot harder when I repeat my level.”
As parents, we must not shield our children to disappointments because as you've said, its part of life. I intentionally do not give what my little girl wants sometimes to know how she will react and prepare her to the real world too.
