Davao has been a city since 1937, but it was only in recent years that it enjoyed a boom in tourism. Today Davao City is embracing its tourism appeal with the rise in the number of establishments including hotels and malls. BUDGET
Visitors, including backpackers, can choose from a number of budget hotels in Davao City, as well as the more unique option of the homestay. Recently established by the Department of Tourism, a homestay is where a local family hosts visitors. You can call the local DoT at (6382) 221-0070/221-6955 for help in booking. Bagobo House Hotel This one is conveniently located in Governor Duterte Street,in the center of the city. The Family Room has two beds and two bathrooms, and costs an average of P2,000 a night. Green Windows Dormitel For those who don’t mind sharing, the Green Windows Dormitel charges an affordable P188 per night per person, while a Standard Deluxe King room starts at P1,608. Got small kidd? ask if the family room is available so the kiddos don’t have to sleep in a different room. Location: 5/L FTC Towers, 1034, Mt. Apo Street The Royale House Travel Inn & Suites This travelers’ inn is located in the heart of the city, and has reasonable rates. MID-RANGE
Microtel by Wyndham Microtel has over a dozen locations around the country, including Davao City. It has reasonable rates that give you the hotel experience and claims to offer chiropractor-approved mattresses in the room, as well as a bathtub in its suites. Prices can go as low as about P2,000 if you book 30 days in advanc. Location: Damosa Gateway Complex, Mamay Road Lanang, Lanang, Davao City, Philippines Crown Regency Residences Its location is far from the main city, but just minutes from the airport. The hotel exemplifies Davao’s vibrant spirit with its Mediterranean-inspired villas and sprawling garden. Location:J.P. Cabaguio Avenue Agdao, Agdao, Davao City, Philippines Seda Abreeza Davao In terms of hotels with good locations, Seda, which is within the Abreeza Mall compound, comes highly recommended, especially for families who love a good breakfast buffet. Location: J.P Laurel Avenue, Bajada, Poblacion, Davao City, Philippines, 8000 Park Inn by Radisson This hotel located 15 minutes from the airport offers soft beds, spotless rooms, a well-equipped gym, and stellar service that epitomizes the Davaoeno way. HIGH-END
MARCO POLO Just 12 kilometers or 20 minutes from the airport, Marco Polo is in the heart of the city. With 245 guest rooms and suites, this established hotel is the place to go, whether it’s to stay or hold a function. Location: CM Recto Street, Poblacion, Davao City, Philippines, 8000 Waterfront Insular Hotel-Davao Another established hotel, Waterfront not only offers great rooms but also a walking path in its expansive garden showcasing the region’s flora and fauna.
